The Pipe: Irish Fishermen Fight Back

The film The Pipe explores how the construction of a gas pipeline by Shell Oil polarized the tiny Irish village of Rossport. Economic prosperity or destruction of a traditional way of life? The unique nature of the coastline, which has sustained generation of farmers and fisherman, also provided Shell Oil the perfect landfall for the Corrib Gas Pipeline. Director Risteard O’Domnhaill follows the story of one of the most dramatic clashes of cultures in modern Ireland — where the rights of farmers over their fields and of fishermen over their fishing grounds come in direct conflict with one of the world’s most powerful oil companies.
